AP Report: Big Ben to Be Cited

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will have to pay $388 in fines for driving a motorcycle without a Pennsylvania motorcycle license and not wearing a helmet. Even though Pennsylvania law allows riders to go helmetless, that law applies to properly licensed motorcycle operators who have been licensed for at least two years or who have completed an accredited safety course. Ben did not have a valid motorcycle operator’s permit and he had not taken the course.

The Primary Care Crisis

It is obvious that our primary care system is broken. Third-party payers, primarily insurance companies and the government, plus a broken torts system that allows for gigantic punitive damage awards that primarily benefit lawyers who prosper from others’ misfortunes, all conspire against the primary care system. The costs associated with the system are growing, and doctors are finding it ever harder to make a living befitting of their commitment to education and training. Many are leaving the primary care practice for less stressful occupations, either going elsewhere in medicine or exiting the practice of medicine completely. I could go on and on here, but I’m not a doctor and my understanding of the screwed up mess is less than thorough. Postcards from the Edge

Has anybody been following my primary health care travails? If so, you’ll recall that in my most recent post in the thread I was informed once again that I was going to get a postcard describing the results of my blood test. You’ll further recall that at the time of that last post, a week ago, I had already spoken with the physician’s office three times via telephone, in my attempt to glean the results of the May 17 tests. At that point, it was already 23 days since the blood was drawn. It gets worse.
