No, this is not about giving Joe Paterno the bum’s rush. ???? ???? ??? It’s about a friendly rival of Joe’s, Bobby Bowden. These days, the grass grows just about as brown on Bobby’s side of the fence as it does on Joe’s.
This past weekend, after Florida State lost to Miami, an irate fan planted a “for sale” sign on Bobby’s Tallahassee front lawn. ????? ???? ????? Nasty stuff. I don’t think anyone ever did that to Joe.
Read this column by Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel calling for Bobby to depart. One minor conjecture of Bianchi’s is that both Bobby and Joe are hanging around for fear the other guy will be able to claim the most pigskin wins of all coaches. ????? ??????
Perhaps both Bobby and Joe should declare that battle a draw and move on with their lives.

On behave of the PSU alumni we accept the terms of the agreement. A joint retirement dinner will be a two hour special on ESPN in mid February (TBA); Hey Tim, we still got Bill Cowhers phone number? And send a kid over to Jays with that for sale sign!

Perhaps these two should have a counseling session with Dean Smith and John Wooden to be acquainted with the notion that there really is life after coaching. There are lots of grandchildren to keep up with and other family things they’ve neglected for many years can become their new raison d’etre.
