Scout.com’s Fight On State web site is reporting that the Nittany Lions’ #2 quarterback, redshirt sophomore Pat Devlin, will transfer to another school before next season. Apparently, he has already left the program, which would make Cianciolo the backup for Daryll Clark for the Rose Bowl game against USC. A further issue is that Cianciolo is graduating, and that leaves Clark as the only quarterback on scholarship for 2009.
The report did not state where Devlin is heading, but FOS states that sources claim he’s looking toward the FCS (formerly known as Division I-AA).
Head coach Joe Paterno is expected to comment on the situation Friday, during Bowl Media Day.
More news as I get around to reading it, or when it happens, whichever comes last!

Just a side note…WR Brett Brackett is a redshirt Sophomore and was originally recruited as a QB (he was a 3-star QB in high school). If we don’t get a top-flight QB commit in this class, I think we will likely see Brackett shift back to QB. That’s too bad as I thought Brackett was starting to come into his own as a WR and could’ve made a big impact next year being a big target in a depleted WR corps. Let’s hope and pray that Clark can stay healthy.

At least for the Rose Bowl, Brackett is practicing at WR. The QB depth chart as of Wednesday was Clark, Cianciolo, and Williams.
Anything goes for next year. I think Brackett has to be considered, and I agree with you that he would be a loss at WR, now having a couple of seasons under his belt.
Apparently, Devlin and his parents presented a list of issues to Paterno when they met with the coach on Monday. I’m sure that went over big. Anyhow, as to whether Devlin would play in the Rose Bowl, Paterno left it to the kid to decide. When he still hadn’t decided as of yesterday, Paterno made the decision for him.
Goodbye, Pat, it’s been nice to know ya.
