After six years and two national championships, University of Florida head football coach Urban Meyer has decided to resign after this season, citing the need to spend more time with his family. He will coach in the January 1 Outback Bowl against Penn State.
Should we take his “family reasons” at face value, or is there something lurking beneath the surface?
Do you think Meyer is gone forever, or will this be one of those situations where the guy goes stir crazy after two years and turns up somewhere in the NFL, like perhaps Denver, where he can continue his mentorship of his beloved Tim Tebow?
How do you think this will affect the players in the Outback Bowl? Will they want to play extra hard to give Meyer a going-away present?
Has he received a phone call from Pitt yet? From Penn State? LOL

I bet he already has a job lined up in the NFL, which will be announced on Jan 2.

Such as Denver? Seems to be a coincidence that they have just opened up a HC job and Urban is suddenly available for continued mentorship of his pal Tim Tebow.

Sounds about right!

i don’t know-the guy has heart problems, and having to deal with exponentially increased egos and expectations would do nothing to help.
i see him falling out of circulation for a few years, and then picking up a gig with college gameday on espn as an analyst.

If memory serves me correct, the alleged heart problem turned out to be esophageal spasm. But then again, my memory rarely serves me correctly and the exact nature of the ailment is immaterial, anyway.
I still consider it an interesting coincidence that the HC job opened up in Denver a day or so before Meyer’s resignation, but I have to believe that if he says he needs to spend time with his family, he’ll spend at least a year making good on that promise. He’s got nothing to gain by making a liar out of himself so soon with the public and his family. A year or two out with some circumstances changed he’ll be flying under the radar.
