What’s in a Name?

Poor Gerry Sandusky. He just happens to share a homonym of a name with a pariah. Gerry (not Jerry) is also in the sports business, being the sports director of a radio station and the voice of the Baltimore Ravens (boo!). Being a Steelers fan, we could jump on his case about the Ravens, since Suggs looks to be out for the year, Reed is getting old, and Zbikowsky is gone, so they’re going nowhere. But I digress. Gerry is unrelated to Jerry.

Since the Sandusky scandal emerged at Penn State, Gerry “I’m Not Jerry” Sandusky has been receiving a veritable plethora of misdirected tweets intended for Jerry “Pederast” Sandusky. While we don’t find anything funny about the whole Jerry Sandusky affair, we have to laugh at some of the vitriol his homonamesake erroneously incurred. View the madness on Gerry Sandusky’s blog.

Get Ready for the Onslaught

It was bound to happen — once Sandusky was found guilty, the scammers would come out of the woodwork to accuse him of molesting them or their sons or pets or whatever.

A guy from Wisconsin now claims that Sandusky hit on him during a Penn State vs. Wisconsin game. He accused Jer of offering to make his sexual fantasies come true while standing at an adjacent urinal on October 5, 2002, at Camp Randall. (PSU won that game 34-31 behind the brilliant running of Larry Johnson, Jr. ???? ???? ??? ??? ???? ). The offer having been rejected, Sandusky allegedly threatened to kill the man spurning his affection. ????? ???? ????????

Stakes are High

This past week we witnessed how the actions of one individual affected the lives of so many. Fortunately, for them, justice was served and hopefully they can start to heal.

The Sunday Pittsburgh Post-­Gazette’s headline read “For PSU the case has just begun.” Over the past eight months, the actions and inaction of our board of many has immensely impacted our university. Their actions moved the focus of the abuse from Jerry Sandusky to PSU. Interesting how the scandals at Syracuse and the Citadel were short term…for Penn State it may well take years to recover.

To keep moving on as usual will be difficult. The blows to Penn State from the press and the public are getting harder and more frequent. This is having an adverse effect on our university and our alumni and each of us will have to be ready to take and endure more blows.

For the future that Penn State is facing, we need qualified leaders who will give the issues total focus and dedication. And they need guts! Right now we know the stakes are high and the quality of leadership at Penn State is low.

Alumni, you are the strong voice of Penn State throughout the country. We need for you to stay strong your loyalty to Penn State is questioned and attacked.

We need you and we need to stay together. No matter how things turn against us we, as Penn Staters, know that we stand for and we know who we are.
