Rutgers Falls as Traffic Cones Mock Detractors

Happy Monday, to you, my small but select audience of Sanguinarians and Cynics. We come here not to praise Caesar but to bury him. That, of course, was a non-sequitur, which is this crazy-ass turkey’s occasional predilection, as it were. That, and pure bullshit, but I digress.

On a striped-out, soggy, prime-time Saturday at Beaver Stadium (to the extent that BTN can really produce enough of an audience to be considered prime anything), the mighty, resurgent Penn State Nittany Lions (2-1, 1-0 Big Ten) delivered a proverbial ass-kicking to the depleted, hapless, and coachless Rutgers Scarlet Knights (1-2, 0-1 Big Ten) to open the conference schedule as the lengthy home stand continued for the Lions. Rutgers’ Flood Suspended Three Games

In my Rutgers pre-game post, I covered the wayward ways of the Scarlet Knights’ football team and its coach, Kyle Flood. Now, Flood has been made to pay the price for his academic meddling, in the form of a three-game suspension that begins with the Rutgers vs. Penn State game on Saturday night.

Rutgers University President Robert L. Barchi issued the following statement:

Coach Flood’s actions in communicating with the faculty member crossed a line that all faculty hold dear. Our faculty must have complete independence in executing their duties and there is a reason why we prohibit athletics coaching staff from discussing the academic standing of students with faculty.”

Ever sensitive to what the NCAA might do, the university is investigating whether NCAA rules were violated by Flood actions. Well, duh.

For the Penn State game and two subsequent games, assistant head coach Norries Wilson, will fill in as head coach.

The aerial view of Beaver Stadium from whoever sponsors the blimpage should be very cool on Saturday night, as our mighty Penn State Nittany Lions (1-1, 0-0 Big Ten) host the Rutgers Criminals Scarlet Knights (1-1, 0-0 Big Ten) in a prime time Big Ten Conference match-up. A stripe-out has been declared! Yay! (Sorry about the sarcasm — what did you expect?) This means that our well-disciplined Penn State fans will alternate blue and white apparel in adjacent sections of the stadium to create a striped effect (see photo). This is becoming an increasingly popular, albeit trite, practice around the college football universe. When it works, it’s a lot of fun. I have to believe that Penn State started this shit way back when with the “Whiteout”.

The Nittany Lions are still celebrating an amazing 27-14 win over MAC powerhouse Buffalo (more sarcasm) while the Scarlet Gang Bangers beat Washington State 37-34 last week. [Read more…]
