Penn State 51, Maryland 15
Drew Allar completed twenty-five of thirty-four passes and the Penn State defense forced four turnovers to catapult the Nittany Lions to a bellybutton bending, scullaportatious victory over hapless Maryland on the latter’s home turf at College Park, as it were.
They didn’t suck this week.
Seemed like the PSU offense suddenly transformed into a confident, efficient and reasonably competent scoring machine. The Nittany Lions need that kind of pellucid confidence as they prepare for the forthcoming Michigan game, which will take place at Beaver Stadium next Saturday—a situation that looked hopelessly dire after last week’s ignominious debacle where they looked like warmed-over moose turds at Indiana.
While the Nittany Lions dominated the stats, Taulia Tagovailoa’s performance in the first half was worrisome, because he completed his first seventeen passes, threatening to score at will. The Penn State defensive secondary was ill equipped to handle Taulia and his men. However, the second half was a different story. After the 17-17 start, he was 12-22 with one interception, finishing the day with 286 yards and two touchdowns.
Maryland was never to get its running game going, winding up the game with -49 yards on 16 attempts. The mighty Penn State defense also recorded six sacks and twelve tackles for loss.
Will Franklin be Criticized?
So, what will James Franklin tell us he doesn’t need to apologize for this week? Will the criticism be that he ran up the score?
Anyhow, what this Turkey can draw from this game is that the Lions go into the Michigan game in the best possible mental state. Doesn’t much matter that they won a winnable game, but that they convinced themselves that they can play. I would suggest that Yurcich shitcans the weird-ass trick plays for next week. The risks he takes should involve stretching the defense, not making them laugh.
