The Sopranos on Health Care

The Sopranos have taken a stand on the health insurance morass and I love it. If the rest of Hollywood were to spend more time exploring real issues instead of conducting an annoyingly arrogant vendetta against the current Administration in Washington, they might actually be performing a public service instead of self-service. Tony Soprano’s (James Gandolfini) current plight carries with it the message that not only anonymous middle class Americans but also Mafia dons have major problems with the health care system. Bada bing!

Fool of the Year

I was going to write a facetious column for April Fool’s Day, but deep thinker that I am, I couldn’t think of anything better than boring you with 2,500 words of scurrilous diatribe about how I’m damn well switching political allegiance to the Democrat party because it is more consistent with my political ideology than is the Republican party anymore. Hell, there’s actually some truth in that. However, that’s a column for another day. Instead, for the topic of today’s non-joke column, I’ve chosen Katherine Harris as Fool of the Year.

Totally Michelle

Sixteen year-old Hawaiian Michelle Wie is ranked second among the world’s female golfers. Given her six-foot stature and her amazing length off the tee, one easily forgets that she is just a junior in high school. Thus, I had a great big belly laugh when I read the following, excerpted from an April 3, 2006 TIME interview by Jeff Chu.

What’s your favorite subject at school? I really enjoy chemistry. When I first took the class, I didn’t think I knew how to study it. It just seemed like a lot of memorizing and equations and all that. But it’s really cool. You get to blow stuff up. Last class, we took a Styrofoam cup and put it next to a vacuum cleaner, and it sucked the air out of it, and it became like a midget Styrofoam cup. We also get to work with dangerous chemicals, so that class is pretty fun.

Michelle’s talking about having fun blowing stuff up and working with dangerous chemicals is hilarious, especially coming from the mouth of a multi-millionaire!
