Not only has Penn State’s Larry Johnson finally “arrived” in the NFL after two years of bench warming but also the media are now giving him serious accolades. Recently, for example, The Turkey read a comment in Sports Illustrated that said if the NFL season was 20 games long, Johnson would win the rushing title. A hypothetical impossibility, yes, but it tells the story of Larry’s accomplishments in the second half of the season. Since taking over the feature back position for the Kansas City Chiefs from the injured Priest Holmes, Larry has shone like a magnitude 10 star, albeit still with some attitude problems. This Turkey is genuinely happy to see a Penn State running back doing so well in the NFL after all the disappointments of the past decade.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T
OK, be honest with The Turkey now. Looking back to the beginning of this season, how many of you thought that the Nittany Lions would be handicapped when JoePa gave Michael Robinson the nod as starting quarterback? I have to admit that I count myself as a “yes” responder. Time had passed Joe by and loyalty meant more to him than selecting the right player for the pivotal position on offense. The Turkey joined a lot of you in calling for Joe to start Anthony Morelli, a sophomore with a rifle arm and a maturity problem. Michael Robinson? Can’t win with him!

Poz 2, Hawk 1
Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny, who attended the Butkus Award ceremony in Orlando tonight even though coach Joe Paterno would have preferred that he stay in State College, will be returning with a little extra luggage. After winning the Butkus Award he’ll be bringing back some additional hardware to add to his burgeoning trophy case. Posluszny beat out Ohio State linebacker A. J. Hawk and Alabama linebacker DeMeco Ryan. ???? ???? Hawk had previously won the Lombardi Award while Posluszny had won the Bednarik Award.
