James C. Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, an influential fundamentalist Christian organization, says he is “deeply disappointed in President Bush and Congressional Republicans” for “betraying social conservatives.” Dobson and others of his ilk want the current administration to come out more strongly against abortion, gay rights and immigration. They have strong opinions on what should be done to shape the culture of the United States. They base their opinions on the fact that they are Christians. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Take My Phone Bill—Please!
A recent piece in USA Today (operating as the marketing wing of the Democratic National Committee) suggested that our “civil liberties” are being endangered by President Bush, as usual, because the National Security Agency is collecting telephone records of ordinary citizens like you and me. Almost instantly, the anti-Bush national media machine joined Democrat opportunists in seizing yet another bogus opportunity to throw a hissy fit of mock outrage designed to inflame the populist sensitivities of ordinary citizens, just like you and me (voters, in other words).
Get Legal or Get Out!
I think I’ve found another subject on which both conservative and liberal American citizens can agree: the great illegal immigrant fiasco. The rest of us would like to see our borders protected with reasonable barriers to entry, both physical and legal.
