The Nittany Lions have elected their captains for 2008. They are Josh Gaines, Sean Lee, and A.Q. Shipley. Although Lee is injured and will sit this season out, he will be an inspirational leader on the sidelines. ??? ???? ???? ??? He was touted by head coach Joe Paterno, and duly rubber-stamped by the team. They no prescription pharmacy prednisone would have voted him in, anyway. Shipley has been an outspoken leader throughout his career on the offensive line. Gaines is a mainstay on the defensive line and an outspoken media favorite. 888 casino The Turkey thinks that these were good and fair choices. ???? ?????
Austin Scott Cleared
Well, folks, didn’t you know that that broad’s story sounded flimsy as hell, in view of her other, similar allegations? Apparently, the Centre County District Attorney’s Office finally came around to thinking so, too. With the trial due to begin next Wednesday and the jury already selected, FOS is reporting that rape charges were dropped and Scott is no longer charged with anything.
The ex-Nittany Lion running back was kicked off the team during last season because of the rape allegation. I wonder how this will hurt his NFL Draft chances. I guess we’ll find out soon enough, as the Draft takes place April 26 & 27. The Turkey, of course, will deliver incisive analysis, from a Penn State perspective.
It seems that the Centre County DA has been more than a bit overzealous in pressing charges against Penn State football players, doesn’t it? How many felony charges against players have evaporated before cases have reached trial? Doesn’t this suggest to anybody that something is rotten in the State of Denmark?
Lee Tears ACL, Out for Season
Nittany Lion linebacker Sean Lee tore his ACL during practice on Friday, ending his season. This is a devastating blow to both Lee and the Penn State defense. Lee would have been the mainstay of the linebacker corps this year. He will undergo reconstructive surgery, after which he will embark upon a nine-month rehabilitation journey.
Lee still has one more year of eligibility after this season, which he’ll watch from the sidelines.
This is a major loss for several reasons, not the least of which is that Lee would have been a spiritual leader of a team that has had a leadership void ever since Michael Robinson departed. His leadership will now have to take place off the field. It is ironic that the defensive unit has been the biggest band of outlaws in the off-field crap, give or take an Austin Scott or a Chris Bell, and now it will have to rely on [cough] Anthony Scirrotto for direction.
The implications regarding Lee’s future professional career are rendered uncertain by this injury. He had been regarded as a top NFL draft prospect heretofore.
The defense didn’t need any significant losses this year. Yet here we are, losing arguably the best defensive player.
