The Turkey doesn’t want to sound like a total douche bag, but isn’t it high time that we eighty-six the dubious tradition of dumping a cannister of Gatorade on a winning football coach? Watching the victorious Ohio State head coach, the geeky looking Jim Tressel, endure the cold, orange shower and show up for a TV interview with his soaked signature scarlet sweater vest dripping the sticky liquid summarily reinforced my negative feelings about this ritual.
Joe Doesn’t Like JoePa
Dan Patrick, in his ESPN radio show today, revealed that his older brother had a conversation with Joe Paterno in the lobby of the team’s hotel in Miami Beach during which Paterno had said that the one thing he regrets is not speaking up when people started calling him ‘JoePa. ??? ???? ????? ’ He said that he doesn’t like the nickname and he regrets that it has stuck. ???? ?????
OK, so The Turkey will not be using the nickname henceforth. ???? ???????
Foot in Mouth Disease
WVU is making short work of refuting point #10 in my previous post, which alludes to their unworthiness as BCS competitors. Watching the Nokia Sugar Bowl with foot firmly in beak, this Turkey hereby apologizes to the entire State of West Virginia, whose Mountaineers have surged to a 21–0 first quarter lead over the discombobulated Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia can certainly recover their composure and win this game but no matter which way it goes The Turkey was wrong to marginalize the Mountaineers. ????? ??? ??????
Ya gotta love the unpredictability of the NCAA Division I-A post-season! ????? ?? ??????
Georgia fans probably had been grousing along the same lines as were some Nittany Lions fans I know—that the Mountaineers (or in the case of the Lion fans, the Florida State Seminoles) were unworthy opposition. ???? ??? ???? ??????? Thus, let this be a lesson: Beware the overconfidence that perceived superiority brings, and beware a scrappy, supposedly overmatched opponent with something to prove!
